Let's Handle The New Currency Well

09.05.2007 LISTEN
By Daily Graphic

Dear Editor, I want all Ghanaians, especially the youth, to handle the new currency to be issued in a few months' time well.

It is sad to note that most Ghanaians do not handle the cedi notes well. Usually, people crumple the cedi notes into their pockets or bags, instead of tucking them in their wallets nicely.

As a result, the Bank of Ghana (BoG) has to issue fresh notes periodically to replace the worn out ones. What's worse, some people write on the notes.

I would want to plead that we all learn how to handle money the right way to save the BoG and the country the cost of printing fresh notes all the time.

Students and all literates in our society must do well to educate the populace on the right way of handling money.

We all need to make an effort to change the way we would handle the new currency to be issued soon. All currencies should be carefully put into our pockets, wallets or purses.

This way, our currencies will always look neat and not dirty or stained with oil or charcoal.

Patriotism is not all about wearing the national colours; it is also about showing respect for our currency.
