The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) Eastern Regional Directorate has intensified efforts to expand democratic engagement in the region by organizing parliamentary candidate dialogues in all 33 municipalities and districts.
The NCCE’s Parliamentary Candidate Dialogue offers a platform for candidates to present their visions, achievements, and to listen to constituents’ concerns on issues of national and local importance.
Speaking at a capacity-building workshop for NCCE Municipal and District Directors in Koforidua, Eastern Regional Director Ms. Ophelia Nana Yaa Ankrah highlighted the importance of these dialogues. She noted that the sessions serve as both a platform for accountability and a tool to foster regional cohesion, giving voters the chance to engage directly with candidates on constituency-specific and national topics.
Ms. Ankrah explained that the workshop aimed to educate directors on the purpose and structure of the Parliamentary Candidate Dialogue, as well as reporting formats, budget allocations, and expenditure guidelines. She urged directors to adhere to the planning guidelines to ensure the dialogues are successful, impactful, and contribute to a peaceful election process in the region.
While commending the directors for their dedication to promoting civic education, Ms. Ankrah emphasized the essential role of the media as partners. “The media are crucial stakeholders. We need each other: we inform the public together and create awareness,” she said, encouraging the directors to actively engage media outlets to amplify their work.
Deputy Eastern Regional Director, Mr. Augustine Bosrotsi, guided the directors through the standardized reporting format for the dialogues. He stressed the importance of thorough and accurate reporting and highlighted key requirements, including media participation, visible NCCE branding, and collaboration with key stakeholders, such as members of the Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC).
Regional Accountant Mr. Emmanuel Asiedu Dadzie provided an overview of the budget allocation for the dialogues, advising directors to be diligent in fund management.
The Parliamentary Candidate Dialogue seeks to offer a constructive space for candidates to share their party’s vision for the constituency and Ghana, enhancing democratic participation across the region.
