A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) activists calling itself Friends of Professor Atta-Mills has called on Ghanaians to vote for Professor Evans Atta-Mills in the 2008 elections.

In a statement signed by the National Chairman, Mr Vet Okuley, it said Prof. Atta-Mills was a visionary who could transform Ghana's economy.

It said Prof. Atta-Mills was endowed with the wisdom and vision to advise the government on how to solve the energy crisis but the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government did not heed to the advice.

“Upon the engineer's information, the man of vision quickly went ahead to offer his expert advice to help bring to an end the energy crisis but the NPP energy minister, out of jealousy, attacked Prof. Atta-Mills with insults.”

The statement said Prof. Atta-Mills introduced the Value Added Tax (VAT), the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and the income tax payable by commercial vehicle and business operators daily and quarterly to generate revenue for the government.

The statement added that Prof. Atta-Mills accepted defeat after the 2000 and 2004 elections to prevent the country from being plunged into civil war.

“Professor Atta-Mills heeded to advice to save Ghana from being engulfed in civil war when he quickly conceded defeat after the 2000 and 2004 elections.”

The statement said those traits were indications that he was the better candidate for the 2008 elections.

The statement said the energy crisis facing the country signified the demise of the NPP government and urged Ghanaians to vote for Prof. Mills since he had four years experience in governance as a former Vice-President of the country.
