Yam traders in the old market are resisting relocation to a new site, despite the Nanumba North Municipal Assembly's efforts to address congestion.
The traders are unhappy with the assembly's failure to meet their demands, including electricity, pavilions, security, potable water, a mosque, clinic and inner roads.
According to Yussif Jarigoogi, a Yam Committee member, the old Bimbilla yam business generates significant revenue for the assembly, surpassing any other market in Nanung.
He stated that the assembly's unfulfilled promises make relocation difficult.
In an interview with the Municipal Chief Executive Alhaji Abdulai Yaquob, he urged traders to claim their portion in the new site, warning that the Assembly will soon relocate them using available means despite their resistance.
He clarified that the relocation decision was made by the Assembly, not a personal directive from his office.
