The third edition of the Ghana Power and Energy Expo has officially been opened, showcasing a larger and more advanced format focused on promoting sustainable energy, fostering innovation, and strengthening partnerships.
This year’s event aims to boost Ghana’s energy independence and support economic diversification by encouraging investments and collaborations across the energy sector.
H.E. Shri Manish Gupta, the High Commissioner of India to Ghana, highlighted India’s significant achievements in renewable energy, including an installed generation capacity of 200 gigawatts. This accomplishment, he noted, demonstrates India’s commitment to the Paris Agreement and serves as a model for potential collaborative partnerships with Ghana in renewable energy.
According to him, the expo provides a unique platform for B2B and B2C linkages, enabling both countries to move beyond transactional ties and pursue long-term partnerships. The presence of Indian industry leaders at the event is expected to facilitate knowledge exchange and open doors for investment opportunities within Ghana’s energy sector.
Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah, Chief Director at Ghana’s Ministry of Energy, emphasized the importance of the Ghana Power and Energy Expo 2024 in advancing sustainable energy initiatives. She highlighted the critical role of Ghana’s renewable energy sector in fostering economic growth and driving industrialization across the country. Ghana is well-positioned to be a transformative force in West Africa's economic landscape, using power and energy as pillars for industrial development.
According to Mrs Asamoah, this initiative aims to enhance the energy sector by adopting sustainable and renewable sources, which will not only generate cleaner energy but also support Ghana’s international climate commitments.
Mrs Asamoah further underscored the need for a robust policy mix to support the growth of the power and energy sector.
The Ghanaian government’s commitment to establishing an enabling environment for stakeholders, she noted, will be vital in advancing the country’s renewable energy ambitions and fostering progress within the sector.
