On Saturday, November 2, we laid to rest a remarkable woman whose life was a testament to love, strength and resilience. My mum, Elizabeth Acheampong, affectionately known as Abena Nkrumah, was more than just a mother to me and a grandmother to her cherished grandchildren. She was a source of strength, a fountain of wisdom and a warm, constant presence in the lives of everyone who knew her.

My mum was a “super mum” in every sense. She wore many hats with grace, humility, and an unfailing smile that could brighten even the darkest days. She was a mother who sacrificed endlessly, giving her time, energy, and resources to ensure her family was always cared for. She was there through every milestone, every setback and every triumph. Whether it was guiding us through the challenges of life, teaching us important lessons, or simply being there with a comforting presence, my mum was the embodiment of unconditional love.

As a grandmother, she continued to amaze us with her boundless love and generosity. To her grandchildren, she was a playmate, a teacher and a storyteller. She made each of them feel uniquely loved and cherished. Her home was always open, her arms always welcoming, and her heart always warm. The bond she shared with them is something they will carry with them forever, a constant reminder of her love and strength.

Elizabeth Acheampong was also a friend to many, with a kindness and compassion that drew people to her. She listened without judgment, offered advice with sincerity, and always made others feel valued and heard. Her friendships were deep and lasting, built on mutual respect and care. She was the friend who celebrated others' successes, the shoulder to lean on in times of sorrow, and the wise counselor who always knew just the right words to say.

Her life was a journey of love, service and unwavering faith. Even in her final days, she exhibited the grace and strength that defined her. While her absence leaves an irreplaceable void, her legacy lives on in each of us. We are who we are today because of her sacrifices, her teachings and her love.

Rest well, dear mother, grandmother and friend. You were a rare and precious gem, a blessing we will forever be grateful for. Though you have left this world, you will live on in our hearts and memories until we meet again.
