The Omanhene of Akomadan, Nana Boakye Akuamoah Boateng II, has praised Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his compassion to the needy, recounting a moment years ago that, he says, moved him to tears.
About four years ago, after a documentary exposed the dire living conditions of an 82-year-old leper residing in a crumbling mud house with her granddaughter, Dr. Bawumia stepped in to build a new home for her in the Motori area of Wa West, Upper West Region.
The Akomadan Omanhene, speaking during Dr. Bawumia's recent visit to the Offinso North Constituency, shared how this act of generosity left a lasting impression on him.
“I shed tears when Dr. Bawumia went to the rescue of a poor woman,” Nana Boateng said.
He added, “This woman was abandoned, living in a dilapidated building. Bawumia saw her plight and promised to build her a house. It touched my heart, and I said, ‘this is a leader.’”
Highlighting further examples of Bawumia’s commitment to the vulnerable, Nana Boateng also commended the Vice President’s longstanding tradition of celebrating his birthdays with lepers.
“Whenever he celebrates his birthday, he shares meals with lepers. What kind of a man is this? Such kindness is rare.”
The Omanhene concluded with a hopeful endorsement, describing Dr. Bawumia as a “visionary” and “compassionate” leader, remarking, “You are a kind and compassionate man who ought to lead this country.”
