Stephen Atubiga, a former National Democratic Congress (NDC) member and leader of the National Liberation Congress (NLC), has raised concerns over the NDC’s campaign strategy for the 2024 elections.
In a social media post on Tuesday, November 6, Atubiga criticized the party’s leadership, specifically pointing to the comfort with which former President John Dramani Mahama is conducting his campaign.
Atubiga noted Mahama is campaigning as though he were already an incumbent or he has won the elections in advance, something Atubiga sees as out of touch with the grassroots realities.
According to Atubiga, many experienced figures and longstanding members of the NDC have been sidelined in this year’s campaign, which he believes is hampering the party’s unity and cohesion.
He lamented the absence of seasoned campaigners who contributed to the NDC’s successes in past elections.
He expressed disappointment that the party has seemingly disregarded past presidential aspirants, whom he feels are integral to rallying broad support for the campaign.
“All the experience NDC victory winning machinery team or members from 1992, 1996, 2008, 2012, have all either been neglected, or not invited. All Former presidential aspirants have been neglected, seen as irrelevant or enemy to be part of campining.
“Candidate campaigning like a sitting president or already won power. Sitting MPS and PC don't have access to candidate or number to call for a way forward,” reads part of his post.
