Ghanaian media practitioner and member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Shamima Muslim, has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of plunging the country's energy sector into unsustainable debt.
According to her, the government channelling money into the party’s 2024 election campaign, leaving the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and other stakeholders in the energy sector burdened with unpaid debts.
In a post on her social media platform on Tuesday, November 5, Shamima Muslim claimed that the government’s financial mismanagement in the energy sector has amassed a $2 billion debt.
She asserted thqt even in the face of the adverse impact on the sector, the NPP is only focused on retaining power in the upcoming 2024 elections.
“The NPP is certainly one to throw away the baby with the bath water,” Muslim stated, adding, “Our energy sector is riddled with huge debts all because the NPP wants to win the next election. The IPPs must tell their stories now!”
“Imagine owing everyone and still parading your profligacy in their face,” she remarked. “How do the IPPs, contractors, suppliers, labor etc. feel watching how their monies are being used to execute the NPP’s campaign and individual pockets? Speak out ohh, speak out,” she stressed.
