A tragic accident on the Vakpo-Aneta road in North Dayi, Volta Region, claimed the life of 16-year-old Pascaline Adadevoh after she was struck by a vehicle transporting political materials.
Pascaline, who had recently completed Junior High School at Cornerstone Preparatory School, was her mother’s only child and had dreams of making her single mother proud.
The vehicle involved was reportedly carrying campaign items, including party T-shirts and paraphernalia, intended for distribution in the Oti Region. The delivery was allegedly organized at the request of Amanda Okyere, an associate of former President John Dramani Mahama, for campaign efforts in the area.
Pascaline’s death has left the small, close-knit village of Aneta in shock, grief, and anger. Enraged residents nearly attacked the vehicle’s occupants, but police intervention prevented further violence.
Many community members, particularly the youth, are holding former President Mahama and the local NDC parliamentary candidate, Hon. Joycelyn Tetteh, indirectly responsible for the tragedy, believing that political activities were prioritized over community safety.
Efforts to reach Mrs. Tetteh, the Member of Parliament for North Dayi, have so far been unsuccessful.
Following the incident, a delegation led by the Kpando Divisional Police Commander, along with the North Dayi Police Commander and Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) commander from Kpando, visited Pascaline’s family to offer condolences. Police have since launched an investigation into the accident.
Despite these actions, tensions remain high in Aneta, with some youth threatening to destroy NDC property in the area. The driver of the vehicle is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
