The Ministry of Interior has clarified that Friday, November 8, will not be a public holiday, even though it marks the celebration of Ghana’s 40th Farmers' Day.
Traditionally observed on the first Friday in December, Farmers' Day was rescheduled to November 8 this year due to the upcoming December general elections.
In a statement, the Ministry of Interior emphasised that while the date of the celebration has shifted, the official statutory holiday for Farmers' Day will still be observed on its regular date, December 6.
This means that government offices and businesses are expected to remain open as usual on November 8, with no public holiday status granted on this rescheduled celebration day.
Farmers’ Day remains one of Ghana’s significant national observances, recognising the invaluable contributions of farmers and fisherfolk to the country’s economy and food security.
However, due to the proximity of this year’s December elections, authorities opted for an earlier celebration to avoid potential scheduling conflicts.
The Ministry’s statement aims to prevent any confusion surrounding the holiday status, reminding citizens and institutions that the formal Farmers' Day holiday will still be recognised on December 6, per the established statutory holiday calendar.
