Claims of discrimination against Gas, Ewes baseless; NAPO's commitment to serve is unshakeable — Aide

Kofi Abrefa Afena, spokesperson for New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential Candidate Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has dismissed as “baseless and malicious” a viral report alleging that NAPO made disparaging remarks against the Ga and Ewe communities.

The report, circulating online, falsely claims that Dr. Prempeh stated, “Gas and Ewes are Ghana’s problem; historically they shouldn’t have been part of Ghana.”

In a statement issued on Monday, Mr. Afena condemned the report as “a fabrication with no basis in reality” and a deliberate effort to sow ethnic division.

“Dr. Prempeh has always respected the rich diversity of Ghana’s ethnic groups and has been a steadfast advocate for national unity and development across all regions.

“This report is nothing more than a baseless attempt to tarnish his image and undermine his commitment to serving all Ghanaians, regardless of ethnicity,” Mr. Afena stated.

He highlighted Dr. Prempeh’s track record, pointing out his role in the successful implementation of the Free Senior High School policy when he was the Education Minister, which has ensured educational access for students across all ethnic backgrounds in Ghana.

“NAPO’s actions speak for themselves; he is committed to inclusivity and equal opportunity for all,” Afena emphasized.

Mr. Afena urged the public to disregard the false claims and called on media outlets to uphold high standards of journalistic integrity by verifying information before publication.

He stressed that NAPO’s commitment to fostering a united Ghana remains “unshakeable,” and that his focus is solely on policies that benefit all citizens.
