Flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has criticised President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for their absence at the National Peace Campaign launch on Sunday, November 3.
The event was aimed at promoting national unity and security ahead of the December, 7 elections.
Mr. Mahama, who cancelled a scheduled rally in Karaga, Northern Region, to attend the peace event in Accra, expressed disappointment at the absence of both the President and the Vice President.
“When I arrived at the event, the President was absent, same as the Vice President.
“You’re the ones responsible for the security and safety of the people. So, if peace talks are ongoing, it is necessary to leave everything you’re doing to join,” Mr. Mahama stated.
Upon inquiring about their absence, Mr. Mahama was informed that Dr. Bawumia was attending a youth programme focused on employment strategies.
Nevertheless, he stressed the importance of prioritising peace efforts, particularly as concerns around national security continue to rise with the election approaching.
