The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson, and the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, have reaffirmed their countries' commitment to enhancing marine safety and promoting sustainable fisheries practices.
This was when a delegation led by the Ambassador paid a courtesy call to the Minister last Friday in Accra to discuss initiatives aimed at deepening the relationship between Ghana and China.
Mrs Koomson expressed gratitude for the various Chinese investments and training programmes that have significantly strengthened Ghana’s marine and aquaculture sectors.
She noted the importance of collaboration to reduce fish imports and expand local fishing opportunities to get a safe and sustainable marine environment.
Ambassador Tong Defa pointed out the various scholarship programmes available in China designed to benefit Ghana's fisheries sector, underscoring China's commitment to Africa's sustainable development.
The discussions reflected both countries’ ongoing efforts to address the challenges facing their marine resources while fostering economic growth through sustainable practices.
