Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, has pledged to make the youth a focal point of his governance if elected, promising that their voices will not only be heard but actively involved in shaping the nation’s future.
Bawumia spoke about his commitment to the younger generation at an event titled “Bawumia for Jobs” on Sunday, November 3.
Addressing an enthusiastic audience of young people, Bawumia acknowledged the frustration many feel toward the political process.
“I don’t blame you if you think all politicians are the same and your vote doesn’t matter. But I can tell you, your vote makes a difference. Do not switch off; I ask you to get involved. December is about you. Vote for a leader who will serve you, not insult you,” he stated.
In a speech laced with both vision and empathy, Bawumia encouraged the youth to look beyond disillusionment, asserting that he offers a fresh approach rooted in transparency, integrity and a strong commitment to inclusivity.
He said, “When I say your concerns are my top priority, I mean it. I have my own vision and my own priorities. Given the opportunity to lead and govern, I should do so as my own man with the help of God.”
His message was especially directed at Generation Z, a demographic that has shown a growing interest in demanding accountability and inclusivity from leaders.
“I know I have the character, the experience, and the vision to address the concerns of young people. Together, we can transform Ghana,” he said. “I therefore invite the youth to join me in the journey of possibilities, particularly the Gen Zs. I have a place for you. If you vote for me, I promise to involve you. Your opinions will be heard.”
The event, themed around job creation and economic opportunities, saw Bawumia discussing plans aimed at tackling the high youth unemployment rate that has plagued the country for years.
He emphasized that his administration would prioritize initiatives to create jobs and improve opportunities for the youth, making them a critical part of his vision for a prosperous Ghana.
