The Omanhene of Agona Nsaba Traditional Area, Okeseku Afari Minta III, has urged Ghanaians to preserve their cultural identity to promote unity and coexistence.
He advised the people to avoid adopting foreign cultures that are unfamiliar to local traditions.
According to Okeseku Afari Minta III, Ghana’s cultural identity is what unites its people, fostering social cohesion and bringing everyone together with shared values and a common identity.
He made these remarks at the unveiling of the Nsabaman Flag, a symbol of authority and pride for the people of Nsabaman, held recently at Agona Nsaba as part of the Annual Akwambo festival.
He reminded his people of the importance of adhering to their cultural values, adding that every community thrives by embracing its unique way of life.
"Today's event is symbolic because it is this flag that keeps our soul and body together as citizens of Agona Nsaba. We have to uphold the legacy of our forefathers who fought with their blood to maintain our cultural identity as Nsabaman."
"Every country, religious body, political party, or company has its own flag to identify them and guide their daily activities. It therefore behooves us to preserve our cultural values and practices and leave this legacy for future generations," he added.
Explaining the symbolism of the Nsabaman Flag, Okeseku Afari Minta III noted that the flag consists of blue and white colors and a black sword. The blue symbolizes the character of Nsabaman and the surrounding water bodies, while the white represents lightning and victory.
"The black sword represents the authority of the Nsaba State. We decided to unveil this flag to remind the youth of their heritage and instill a spirit of patriotism so they would, in turn, sustain our cultural values and practices."
He also encouraged other traditional leaders across the country to teach young people the importance of maintaining their cultural values. "We must live as Ghanaians, united as one nation with a common destiny," he stressed.
The Dabrehene of Agona Nsaba Traditional Area, Obrempong Afari Doudu Opoku I, emphasized that the Nsabaman Flag is a spiritual bond that unites the people of Agona Nsaba, both at home and abroad, in support of the community's well-being.
"I am extremely happy to witness this ceremony, which showcases the flag representing our cultural values and beliefs, enabling us to share our story with the world."
"This flag symbolizes the power and authority of Nsabaman under the capable leadership of Okeseku Afari Minta III, Omanhene of the Nsaba Traditional Area. We cherish him for his inspirational leadership."
He also stressed the importance of teaching children about their heritage so that they do not adopt customs alien to their own traditions. "Now is the time to instill these values in the youth as we celebrate our annual Akwambo festival," Obrempong Afari Doudu Opoku I said.
