The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC has presented a cheque of GH₵1 million to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) as a prize for the National Best Farmer in the 2024 National Farmers’ Day.

The Deputy Managing Director of ADB, Mrs Eno Ofori-Atta, who did the presentation on Thursday in Accra stated that the bank remained committed to investing in the agricultural sector, especially in ways that help farmers adapt to climate change and improve food security.

She stated that the bank would continue to support farming activities that provide raw materials to agro-based industries and create jobs for the youth.

The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Yaw Frempong Addo, who received the cheque on behalf of the ministry commended the bank for the gesture and for sustaining this role for 39 years.

Regarding the National Farmers’ Day celebration, he announced that this year’s event would take place in the Greater Accra Region from the 4th to the 8th of November, 2024 ahead of the elections in December.

This year's theme is “Building Climate Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food and Security,” which highlights the challenges farmers face due to climate change.

He said the theme would help address the country’s urgent issues, especially after experiencing drought conditions in several regions.

The Farmers’ Day celebrations will have various activities that include an Agri-Fest and Agri-Exhibition, showcasing products from research institutions and stakeholders in agriculture before climaxing with the awards day.

Also, Broonest Company, Agriseed Limited, Chemico, Nanam Ventures Limited, RMG Ghana and Ingreen Irrigation Solutions from Interplast donated assorted items and a cheque for GH₵67,500 to the Ministry as their contribution to this year’s National Farmers’ Day celebration.
