The son of prominent Ghanaian Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako, 16-year-old Elrad Salifu Amoako, has been remanded in custody for one week after pleading not guilty to multiple charges, including manslaughter and dangerous driving, following a devastating accident at East Legon, Accra.
The case has drawn significant public attention due to the involvement of a high-profile family and the tragic loss of two young girls.
On October 12, Elrad, while driving a Jaguar SUV with registration number GN 7801-20, reportedly crashed into a 4×4 Acura vehicle, registration GR 2542-23, on Mensah Wood Street in East Legon.
The heavy impact between the two vehicles resulted in both cars catching fire. According to police investigations, the Jaguar SUV, driven by Elrad with one other occupant, rammed into the Acura, which carried five passengers, including driver Joseph Ackah.
Tragically, two passengers in the Acura, identified as Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, both 12-year-old girls, did not survive the crash and have since been laid to rest.
Three other occupants of the Acura were rescued, with two of them suffering minor injuries, though they were subsequently treated and discharged from the hospital.
Elrad now faces eight charges, including manslaughter and dangerous driving. In his recent court appearance, he pleaded not guilty, resulting in the court’s decision to remand him into lawful custody.
