The Ashanti Regional chapter of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) held its annual general meeting under the theme, "Empowering Growth, Building a Strong Workforce," aimed at promoting local industries and fostering resilience in the sector.
Industry leaders, stakeholders, and entrepreneurs gathered to share insights and strategies for growth. This regional meeting precedes the AGI’s national conference, scheduled to take place in Accra.
AGI President Seth Twum-Akwaboah highlighted the association's ongoing efforts to engage presidential candidates across political parties, encouraging them to sign a memorandum of understanding to include industry-friendly policies in their party manifestos.
“Strengthening industries will create jobs and curb unemployment,” Twum-Akwaboah stressed. “We’re committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to drive sustainable growth.”
According to him, these efforts aim to champion local industries, build a strong workforce, foster a resilient business environment, and promote policies that support industry growth.
The AGI’s strategic engagement with political parties seeks to ensure policies that support entrepreneurship, job creation, and enhanced industry competitiveness feature prominently in their agendas.
Mr. Kwasi Nyamekye, Ashanti Regional Chairman of AGI, emphasized that the growth of a nation’s economy is closely tied to the strength of its industries. He urged the government to implement strategies to boost local industries, recognizing their vital role in economic progress.
He suggested that the government could reduce energy costs by implementing policies to lower electricity expenses for industries. He also advocated for industry-friendly policies to attract investment and ease regulatory burdens, alongside infrastructure investments to support industrial operations. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of providing resources for workforce training and upskilling to enhance productivity.
By addressing these areas, Mr. Nyamekye noted, the government could create an environment in which local industries can thrive, driving forward Ghana’s economic development.
