
The Governing Council of Tamale Technical University (TaTU) has appointed Professor Abdul-Manan Dauda as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University, effective October 21, 2024, for a three-year term.
The appointment follows the Governing Council’s acceptance of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Search Committee’s report, presented at its 12th meeting on September 13, 2024.
The announcement, made by Council Chairman Dr. Al-Hassan Emil Abdulai through the University’s Public Affairs Directorate on October 30, 2024, confirmed Professor Dauda’s succession of current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bashiru Imoro Saeed, whose term ended in June 2024.
Before this appointment, Professor Dauda served as the Dean of the Faculty of Built and Natural Environment at TaTU. A long-standing member of the University since 2001, he brings extensive experience in teaching, mentoring, and academic administration. His previous roles include Acting Vice-Chancellor from 2018 to 2020, Vice-Rector of the former Tamale Polytechnic from 2016 to 2018, and Dean of Students from 2012 to 2016.
The Council, staff, and student body have conveyed their congratulations to Professor Dauda on his new role. "We wish you a productive tenure and assure you of our support to help the University achieve its developmental goals and enhance educational quality," they expressed.
The Alumni Association also commended the Council for entrusting Professor Dauda with the Pro Vice-Chancellorship and extended its congratulations.
In response, Professor Dauda expressed gratitude to the University Council, management, and staff for their confidence and pledged to work collaboratively to advance the University’s mission. "The University is in urgent need of development, and I am committed to working with the Vice-Chancellor and the University community to nurture the next generation of leaders for Ghana," he stated.
Professor Dauda, an Associate Professor in the Department of Building Technology, has a background in architecture and construction project management. He holds a PhD in Architectural Science from Tianjin University, China, as well as a BSc and postgraduate degree in Architecture from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. His academic interests include sustainable design, environmental planning, and construction consultancy, and he has received awards, including a Staff Development scholarship for his PhD studies in China.
An accomplished academic, Professor Dauda has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, presented at national and international conferences, and supervised over 150 student theses and dissertations. A practicing architect and member of two professional bodies, his career spans over 20 years, encompassing projects in residential, religious, commercial, corporate, and sports planning, design, and construction.
