Adib Saani, Security Analyst and Executive Director of the Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building has claimed that politicians are hesitant to address the ongoing conflict in Bawku due to concerns over losing voter support.

According to Saani, while politicians are aware of the underlying issues fueling the clashes, the fear of losing votes has kept them from taking decisive action.

"Which politician is willing to lose votes? Before a politician does anything, the first consideration is political expediency, asking questions like "what is going to happen to my vote,” he explained.

He added that the reluctance to address the Bawku conflict openly stems from this concern, as tackling the issue may come at a cost to a politician or political party.

Saani believes that restoring peace in Bawku requires a bolder approach from leaders.

He indicated that allowing the military the free hand to fully operate could stabilize the area within 48 hours.

“....but they know the truth, they cannot act because they are scared but If the military is given full power in Bawku, within 48 hours, peace will be restored,” he stated.

This comes as tensions remain high, with reports of armed groups setting up roadblocks in areas like Gbimsi and Walewale town to monitor and attack potential targets.
