The 2022 Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) House Officers are urging the Ministry of Health to swiftly release overdue compensation owed for their completed housemanship.
“We call upon the Ministry of Health and all relevant bodies to prioritize the immediate release of these funds,” they urged, emphasizing that delays not only affect them but could also deter future health professionals from entering the field.
Responding to claims by Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, a member of H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team that they had already been paid, the House Officers clarified in a press statement that they have yet to receive any payment.
“These funds are not discretionary allowances but essential, legally mandated compensation akin to a salary,” the House Officers stated, stressing that their duties are a critical part of Ghana’s healthcare system.
They described their work in areas such as medication therapy management, patient education, and antimicrobial stewardship as essential, emphasizing that they carried out these roles under the same rigorous standards as doctors and nurses in similar training roles.
The House Officers further noted the financial and emotional strain caused by the non-payment of their monies, which has significantly impacted their ability to meet daily expenses.
“The non-payment of these due amounts has placed undue financial strain on us, leading to economic hardship and emotional distress,” they disclosed.
