Government says domestic consumers of utilities will soon have to bear the full cost.

Only last year the government had to absorb the last increment in electricity and water tariffs approved by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission for both commercial and domestic consumers.

One year on government has withdrawn subsidies on tariffs for industries, hotels, banks and other businesses that use water and electricity for commercial purposes.

Already, the PURC has approved 250 percent increase in tariffs for commercial consumers of water.

According to the PURC, government will soon withdraw subsidies on utilities for domestic users as well. The Executive Director of the PURC Stephen Aidoo told Joy news the utilities regulator has endorsed government's decision.
