The Volta Revolution

Somewhere last year, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) began a journey to find a successor to President Akufo-Addo. About a score of leading members of the NPP entered the race including the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The race for the flagbearer of the NPP was not very smooth. It was full of events including the defection of Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen to form the Butterfly Movement. A few others after they lost the race developed a very lukewarm attitude, fueling speculations that more leading members would leave the party.

But when Kennedy Agyapong, who placed a record second in the race, appeared at the Accra Sports Stadium where Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia was outdoored, the naysayers including the prophets of doom changed their strategies.

These arch enemies of the NPP, including John Mahama who claimed the NPP was only using Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in 2016 and 2020 to win votes and after that dump him, were put to shame like magicians used to say when faced with challenges during their public performances.

When Ghana was hit by COVID-19 and the effects of the Ukraine-Russia war, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and their liars began calling the Vice President names, including what the propagandists wanted to brainwash the minds of the electorate by calling him a “liar”. They also claimed he run away from leadership of the economic management team to focus on digitalisation, for which John Mahama today has the guts to ask Gas whether Dr. Bawumia can use his digitalisation agenda to give them kenkey and fish.

He sarcastically asked them whether the people of Accra can get digital kenkey, thereby denigrating a whole ethnic group. He did a similar thing to the Ewes when during a tour of the Volta Region, he described the Manifesto of the NPP as “akple manifesto”.

It has been said that John Mahama has no message, even after he had stayed in opposition for almost eight years.

John Mahama and his team of NDC leaders are bereft of ideas, and cannot fathom any dream to help them “reset” Ghana, as the NDC claims as one of its slogans.

John Mahama again has erected billboards all over the country claiming to be honest, trustworthy and reliable, which fly in the face of the record. The NDC and its propagandists led by the disrespectful Sammy Gyamfi launched blistering attacks on Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, calling him by some unprintable words. But when the NDC realised that today, it is failing to attract the people to listen to their messages, they turned to the corridors of some fake pastors to engage in the mind game of confusing the people that some so-called voices of God which many believed to be coming from the underground world of the evil forces, had predicted that John Mahama is the anointed one on December 7, 2024.

One even claimed that although he had earlier predicted that John Mahama can never be President again, he has a changed heart now. Prior to that, John Mahama had insulted chiefs, pastors and Imams who have praised Dr. Bawumia for his policies, character, integrity and hard work.

John Mahama, who could not stand the growing popularity of Dr. Bawumia, again said he could not understand the mindsets of the people who have been praising the NPP flagbearer, describing the NPP government as “aban fun”, in other words the NPP government is a useless government.

The NDC had originally thought of leveraging the economic hardships for electoral gain, but now that is also not resonating on the people of Ghana. Today, there is a “revolution” in the Volta Region with chiefs, the people and ordinary people “fighting” to catch a glimpse of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. They are also “fighting” over NPP T-shirts, something considered a taboo many years ago.

As if that was not enough, speaker after speaker including pastors and chiefs are extolling the integrity of Dr. Bawumia, for changing the face of politics from one of insults to issue-based.
