Dr. Daniel Asare, Medical Superintendent of the Regional Hospital in Sunyani has appealed to the government to resolve the current salary disparity.

Dr. Asare, a surgeon who made the appeal in an interview with the GNA about a strike action by members of the Union pointed out that the problem had gone on “for far too long.”

He denied that doctors at the hospital had embarked on a strike action. He said the hospital's management had met with the rank and file of the basic units of the hospital to deliberate on how best to handle the situation should.

“Provisions have already been made to supplement any shortfall caused by the national service personnel, casual workers and those employed under the national youth employment programme”, he said.

Dr Asare added that with the exception of the Out-Patient-Department (OPD), which would not be in service, all the other departments including OPD for children, child emergency, dental clinic, surgical, accident, delivery obstetrics, emergency as well as antiretroviral therapy would be in full session, and that there was no cause for alarm.
