Akrofuom Assembly lauded for exceeding revenue target

The Akrofuom District Assembly has been praised by the Regional Coordinating Council and the National Technical Working Team from the Ministry of Finance for surpassing its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) revenue target for the first half of the year.

This recognition was made during a joint budget briefing held at Manso Nkwanta, the district capital of the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region.

The annual program, conducted in accordance with Regulation 17 (3) of the Public Financial Management Regulations 2019 (L.I 2378), provides Regional Coordinating Councils, with support from the National Technical Working Teams, the opportunity to review the revenue and expenditure performances of various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) for the year, and assess their outlook for the coming years.

The goal of this process is to ensure that government policies and programs are properly reflected in the MMDAs' budgets, contributing to the effective implementation of decentralization.

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Dr. Maurice Jonas Woode, and the District Budget Analyst, Mr. Kennedy Ransford Gyimah, presented on behalf of the Assembly. Their presentation highlighted the Assembly's revenue sources and how those funds have been used to benefit the people of the Akrofuom District.

It also addressed the major successes of the Assembly, identified challenges, and outlined strategies to mitigate these challenges in the near future.

A key highlight of the presentation was the Assembly’s success in exceeding its Internally Generated Funds target. The Assembly, in its 2024 budget, had set a revised target of GHC 947,043.10 for IGF (excluding royalties). However, due to prudent management measures, the Assembly achieved GHC 719,361.89, representing 75.96% of the target, by the end of the third quarter—exceeding expected performance at the 75% mark.

The Assembly’s management was commended for this achievement by the Regional Coordinating Council and the National Technical Working Team, who urged other districts to adopt similar strategies to boost their revenue generation.

Notably, the Assembly has already used part of its internally raised funds for a key project: the construction of a kindergarten school block with bathroom and toilet facilities at Akrofuom.

However, the team from the Akrofuom Assembly appealed to the Regional Coordinating Council and the National Technical Working Team to urge the District Assembly Common Fund Secretariat to release DACF funds in a timely manner, so that more projects can be undertaken in the district.

The event was attended by traditional leaders (Nananom), District Chief Executives, Presiding Members, Assembly members, Heads of Department, Coordinating Directors, and other stakeholders from neighboring districts, including Amansie South, Amansie Central, Obuasi East, and the host district, Amansie West.
