The Ghana Institute of Planning (GIP) has launched the 2024 Annual Conference and General Meeting (AGCM) of the Institute with a call on members to intensify efforts for enhanced and sustainable planning of cities.

Planner Percy Anaab Bukari, the President for GIP, who made the call, said physical planning activities contributes immensely to national development, hence, should not relent in efforts and endeavors to prevent haphazard physical developments for a sustainable city in the future.

He was speaking at the launch of the 53rd AGCM scheduled for 21st and 22nd November this year in Sunyani, under the theme: "The Nexus between Integrated Planning and Ghana's Decentralized Development: Prospects, Challenges, and the Way Forward."

Activities
Some activities that will characterize the 2024 AGCM are the induction of new members of the Institute and a visit to the Kintampo Water Falls to ascertain the contribution of the GIP to support the development and modernization of the tourist site.

As part of the launch, members re-elected Planner James Eta-Era as Chairman, Planner Adjei Asare Baffour Snr, Vice Chairman, Planner Gifty Nyarko as Secretary, and Anthonia Ayamga as Organizer for the Sunyani Zone of the GIP.

The occasion was witnessed by Nana Kwame Baah Nyantakyi Antoapomah, the Nkwakawhene of Sunyani Traditional Area; Nana Abena Boatenmaa II, Fiapre Kyidomhemaa; Prof Jonas Akrugu, Dr Rejoice Gyebi and Dr Michael Adanney.

Other personalities were Pln. Frank Martey Korley, Regional Director of the Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority and Pln. I.B. Ankomah, the Sunyani Municipal Coordinating Director.
