Some Members of Parliament (MPs) from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kusaug administrative area have renewed their call for the creation of a new region from the Upper East Region, emphasizing the need for accelerated development.
Addressing a large crowd of NDC supporters in Garu during the campaign launch of Dr. Thomas Anaba, the MPs, including Hon. Mahama Ayariga, Hon. Albert Alalzuuga Akuka, Hon. Hajia Laadi Ayishetu Ayamba, and Hon. Lydia Akanvariba Adakudugu, urged the people of Kusaug to vote overwhelmingly for the NDC in order to facilitate the creation of the proposed region. They noted that this initiative would benefit all residents, regardless of political affiliation, and called for unity across party lines.
Hon. Mahama Ayariga emphasized the importance of the proposed region, stating that it would bring development to all communities in the area. He encouraged both NDC and New Patriotic Party (NPP) members to support the initiative for the collective good.
NDC National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Chief Sofo Azoka, also addressed the gathering, calling for unity among the Kusaug people to ensure the NDC retains all six parliamentary seats in the area in the upcoming 2024 elections.
During the campaign launch, Dr. Thomas Anaba, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Garu, appealed to the people to vote massively for him. He also donated a new ambulance to the Garu constituency, emphasizing his commitment to improving healthcare services.
At Binduri
In Binduri, Hon. Isaac Adongo, the ranking member of the Finance Committee and MP for Bolga Central, urged voters to reject the incumbent MP, Alhaji Abdulai Abanga, in favor of the NDC.
Speaking to NDC supporters in Nayoko in the Binduri District, Adongo criticized the NPP for mismanaging the economy, making life difficult for Ghanaians.
He also reiterated the NDC’s commitment to the creation of a new region, as promised by former President John Dramani Mahama during his recent visit to Bawku Naba.
Adongo accused Alhaji Abanga of stalling development in the region, claiming that the MP only recently started construction projects, such as clinics and roads, in a bid to win votes. He urged the people to vote for change in the 2024 elections.
Lawyer Osman Ayariga, the NDC's National Deputy Youth Organizer, called on the youth of Bawku and the Kusaug traditional area to trust the NDC. He added that certain NPP members have begun resigning from their positions due to the failures of the government, insisting that those involved in corruption will face justice.
NDC Deputy National Communications Officer, Malik Basintale, also urged the people of Kusaug to vote for John Dramani Mahama, emphasizing that the current government had mismanaged the conflict in Bawku. He expressed frustration over being unable to visit Bawku for Christmas, a tradition he used to enjoy, due to the ongoing unrest.
