The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has assured the public of its commitment to transparency, fairness, and integrity as the country prepares for the 2024 general elections.
In a press release issued on Monday, October 14, the Commission reaffirmed its readiness to conduct a smooth electoral process and urged Ghanaians to trust it to deliver on its mandate.
“We entreat the Public to trust us to deliver on our mandate,” said the election management body.
According to the EC, carefully calculated statistics guide the printing of ballot papers for both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
These figures are based on the total number of registered voters on the 2024 Provisional Voters Register (PVR), with an additional two percent increase to accommodate any unforeseen demands.
“The Commission took into account the total number of voters on the 2024 Provisional Voters Register plus a two percent increase,” said Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations for the EC.
This approach, he explained, has been used by the Commission since 1992 to ensure the availability of enough ballots without leading to waste.
Mr. Tettey further noted that while the EC encourages full voter participation on election day, it acknowledges that not every registered voter may turn out.
