NDC NDC Ashanti Regional chairman begs Asantehene to intervene in voter register dispute
MON, 14 OCT 2024

Andrews Augustus Nana Kwasi, the Ashanti regional chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has appealed to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to intervene in the Electoral Commission's (EC) refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register.

The NDC is advocating for this audit to ensure a trustworthy, free, fair, and transparent general election, set for December 7.

However, the EC has dismissed their request, asserting that the current voter register is robust.

During a passionate plea at the NDC campaign launch in the Ejisu Constituency, Nana Kwasi, visibly kneeling, expressed deep concern over the EC's decision to move forward with printing ballot papers without resolving the voter register issue.

He warned that this could potentially lead to chaos during the elections.

The Ashanti Regional NDC chairman emphasised the importance of Otumfuo's respected position, expressing hope that the EC would heed the Asantehene's intervention to guarantee a clean and credible voter register.

“Otumfuo is a peace-loving King who does not want election-related violence in the Ashanti region or anywhere in the country,” he stated, highlighting the necessity of his involvement for the upcoming polls.

In support of this appeal, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, the National Vice Chairman of the NDC, criticised President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr. Bawumia, claiming they have led the nation to destruction.

He reinforced the message that John Mahama, the NDC flagbearer, represents the only hope for Ghana.

Additionally, the NDC's Parliamentary Candidate for the Ejisu Constituency, Deaconess Jerryne Asante, called on constituents to vote for the NDC to ensure the region's development.
