Former National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives from the branches, constituencies, regions, and national levels have pledged their commitment to intensify the party's campaign efforts to secure a massive victory in the December 7, 2024, general elections.
This was announced by Mr. Tawiah Boateng, former NDC Eastern Regional Chairman, during a one-day training and sensitization session for members of the Eastern Regional Chapter of the Coalition of NDC Former Executives (CONFEX).
Mr. Boateng expressed their determination to collaborate with current party executives, leveraging their experience to complement ongoing efforts aimed at securing a convincing victory for the NDC. He emphasized the importance of working together to "salvage Ghana from the economic and social mess of the Nana Addo-Bawumia administration."
In his address, Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, former NDC General Secretary, stressed the significance of unity within the party, urging members to avoid complacency. While confident in the NDC’s chances, he advised party members to remain focused and work diligently toward an overwhelming victory. "Until every ballot paper is counted, we have not won. We must bring everyone on board, be they former or current executives, or even ordinary members. Everyone has a role to play," Mr. Afriyie Ankrah emphasized.
Using his own experience as an example, he recounted how, despite losing a contest, he remained loyal to the party and continued to work hard. He encouraged other former executives to stay active in party activities at all levels, using their knowledge to contribute to the NDC's success. "Let your experience and understanding of elections be an advantage as your contribution to the party’s success," he added.
Mr. Afriyie Ankrah also highlighted the current economic hardship under the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and called on members to take responsibility by joining the campaign to save the country from mismanagement.
Former Eastern Regional NDC Chairman Mr. Tawiah Boateng explained CONFEX's primary objective: to ensure victory for former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC in the 2024 general elections, while also increasing the party’s parliamentary seats. He expressed confidence that the experience and insights of former executives would be instrumental in achieving this goal.
Mr. Boateng addressed past tensions between former and current executives, which had negatively impacted the party's chances in several parliamentary races. He revealed that some disgruntled former executives had even supported independent candidates in the past, but assured that CONFEX is committed to bridging the gap and fostering unity to avoid such setbacks in 2024. "We are ever ready to work hand in hand with the current leadership to ensure victory in 2024. Divided, we fall, but united, we will win this election and secure more parliamentary seats," he declared.
He urged all former executives to avoid conflicts with their successors and to see their role as one of support, not competition. "Current executives will one day become former executives as well. We must work together to achieve our shared goals."
The former NDC Chairman for the Abuakwa North Constituency, Mr. David Kwadwo Siaw Frempong, reiterated this call, emphasizing that former executives are fully prepared to collaborate with the current leadership to secure victory in the 2024 general elections. "United we stand, divided we fall," he remarked, expressing confidence in the party's chances.
Mr. Siaw advised former executives not to feel threatened by the current leadership, stating that their role is to complement, not replace, the efforts of those currently in office. "If you are a current executive, no former executive is here to take your position. Everything we are doing is aimed at supporting the current leadership to achieve the party's objectives on December 7, 2024," he reassured.
Madam Anita Desoso, former National Women’s Organizer and former National Vice Chairperson, pledged the unwavering support of all former women executives toward the NDC’s agenda. She urged former executives to prioritize the growth and success of the NDC in all elections and assured Ghanaians that the Mahama administration would provide good governance if elected. She also encouraged women to continue praying for the NDC's victory.
Mr. William Kwame Atamudzi, a former branch executive, former constituency executive, former Regional Vice Chairman, and now Deputy National Director of Welfare, highlighted the importance of collaboration between former and current party executives. He believes that this partnership signals a victory for the NDC in the upcoming 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections.
Mr. Atamudzi emphasized the need for a massive membership drive to support the NDC’s transformation agenda for Ghana. He acknowledged that former executives are often overlooked after leaving office, but urged all to put the past behind them and join forces with the current leadership for a resounding victory in 2024. "When it comes to advancing the party, everyone’s contribution matters," he stated, calling on current executives to embrace inclusivity and work together with all members.
His message was clear: working as one united team will lead the NDC to a resounding victory on December 7, 2024.
