Board Chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr Joe Ghartey says the Authority has exceeded its revenue target for the first three quarters of this year.

According to him, the success is ‘historic’, emphasizing that despite an election year the Authority has ensured effective revenue collection.

Mr Ghartey, delivering a speech at the launch of the Citizen App in Accra recently, acknowledged all GRA workers and urged them to do more for the country.

“We have exceeded the target for the third quarter and also exceeded the target for the first three quarters of the year. That performance is a 38.6 % growth over the same period in 2003.

“I congratulate every single person who made this possible,” he told dignitaries including the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to him, the success in tax collection this year was achieved in a “more business-friendly manner,” unlike the more brutal approach in previous years which has been termed as harassment.

He said GRA has used “education, engagement” and “digitalization” to exceed its revenue collection target.

Mr Ghartey further stressed that the introduction of the Citizen App will positively transform the future of Ghana and aid tax collection.

What are the figures? Please make sure charge the right amount and the right people, as life operates on cause and effect, sowing and reaping. If the state deceives people, that money won't benefit anyone. I recently heard that the DVLA is charging people twice, which is unacceptable. What kind of message are we sending to the public? Taxes should be on profit, not when people are already losing on their investments and being taxed again. The downturn in the economy was caused by its managers, n...
