In commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child on Friday, October 11, Minister of Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to empowering young girls through education.
In a message shared on Facebook, Dr. Adutwum emphasized the importance of providing every girl the opportunity to succeed, irrespective of her background.
The Education Minister began his post by acknowledging the remarkable resilience and potential of girls across the country.
“On this special International Day of the Girl Child, I celebrate girls’ incredible strength and potential nationwide,” Dr. Adutwum wrote.
He highlighted that investing in girl child education is not just a priority for today but a long-term commitment aimed at building a future where no girl is left behind.
“Today, and every day, we reaffirm our commitment to investing in girl child education, nurturing their dreams, and ensuring that every girl has the opportunity to thrive and lead,” he said, underscoring the role education plays in shaping a more equitable society.
Dr. Adutwum called on all Ghanaians to continue championing the cause of girls’ education, urging collective efforts to inspire and uplift the next generation of female leaders.
“Together, we are building a brighter, more equitable future where no girl is left behind. Let’s continue to inspire, empower, and uplift our girls!” he wrote.
The minister’s message comes at a time when Ghana has, according to official figures, closed the gender gap in secondary education, with initiatives supporting girls in underprivileged communities, providing scholarships, and improving access to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education for young girls.
The International Day of the Girl Child, observed globally on October 11, was established by the United Nations to highlight the challenges faced by girls and promote their rights.
