In a remarkable act of honesty, a Bolt driver in Accra has won the admiration of many after returning GHS38,600 that was mistakenly transferred to his mobile money account by a passenger.

The story, shared on Facebook by the passenger, Seme Kor, on Thursday, October 10, has since gone viral, with many lauding the driver for his integrity.

According to Seme Kor, he was in the middle of a money transfer to a business partner while on a ride with the Bolt driver, identified as Albert Quansah.

However, in a moment of distraction, he accidentally transferred the large sum of money to the driver’s account instead of his intended recipient.

“Ok, so I picked this Bolt driver in the afternoon, and during my ride with him, I was making a money transfer to a partner until we got to my destination and I had to pay him. I took his momo number and then I transferred him his fare,” Seme Kor wrote.

He explained that he only realized his mistake after having already transferred GHS38,600 to Quansah, instead of his business partner. Filled with panic, he immediately called the driver, fearing the worst.

“My heart nearly dropped, and I called him with aggression, but he kept his cool and told me he was trying to call me because my number was busy,” he recounted.

To his surprise, Quansah had already driven back to the location where he had dropped him off, hoping to meet him and return the money.

Rather than taking advantage of the situation, Quansah went above and beyond to rectify the mistake.

According to Seme Kor, Quansah transferred GHS15,000 back to the correct number but had reached his daily transfer limit.

He left his phone with Seme Kor and provided his mobile money password, allowing him to complete the transfer later that night.

Quansah assured him that he would return the following morning to retrieve his phone.

“I have never met an honest, selfless human being like this gentleman ever in my life. Bolt company should be so proud of him,” Seme Kor wrote, adding that as a gesture of appreciation, he offered to cover Quansah’s daily sales of GHS700.

The story has since garnered widespread attention, with many praising the driver’s integrity.

Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur, Criss Waddle, was one of the notable figures to comment on the post, expressing his desire to reward Quansah’s honesty.

“Can we also have his momo number just to be able to give him something to show him that good people are hard to come by and that we appreciate him?” Waddle wrote in response to the post.
