The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has reassured the public that there is no imminent shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the country, despite recent concerns over supply disruptions.
The NPA, in a press statement issued on Thursday, October 10, emphasized that there is sufficient LPG in the system to meet national demand.
This comes in the wake of reports of potential shortages, particularly in the Western and Central regions, which are supplied with LPG from the Ghana National Gas Processing Plant in Atuabo.
The plant had experienced a power issue that temporarily halted the processing of natural gas from which LPG is derived.
“The Authority wishes to reassure the public that there is no threat to the supply of LPG in the country and no imminent shortage of the product,” the NPA stated. “There is adequate LPG in the country to meet national demand.”
The NPA confirmed that while the Atuabo plant is yet to return to full production, it is expected to resume normal operations by October 15, 2024.
In the interim, the Authority directed LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs) in the affected regions to load supplies from the Tema depot to serve their outlets.
“The opening stock of LPG as of 9th October 2024 was enough to last almost two weeks of national consumption. In addition to this, the Sentuo Oil Refinery is also producing LPG, which serves the market daily,” the NPA further assured.
The NPA also highlighted efforts to ensure continued LPG availability nationwide, including scheduling deliveries of over 20,000 metric tonnes of LPG between October 21 and 27, 2024, under the LPG Tender programme.
These deliveries, the NPA said, will bolster national reserves and meet rising consumer demand.
