The Northern Zonal Office of the Ghana Shippers' Authority (GSA) has held a programme to sensitize the media on its operations and trade advocacy.
This was to enhance the knowledge of the selected media on trade issues and how to help educate the public on trade activities for economic growth.
The programme held in Tamale at the Nim Avenue Hotel, was also aimed at strengthening the media’s understanding of GSA's operations, particularly the activities of its Zonal Office.
The media engagement forms part of the Authority's broader initiative to foster collaboration with the media and strengthen its advocacy efforts for more efficient trade operations across the country.
By building a strong partnership with the media, the Northern Zonal Office aims to ensure that the challenges and successes within the trade sector receive the necessary media attention to redress which is believed would help enhance trade facilitation in the country as well as nearby countries.
It is expected to bring peace among the sister countries to bring about job opportunities and socio-economic development.
The event which was attended by several journalists and correspondents from the electronic and print media houses in the Northern and Upper East Regions, served as an educational platform for journalists to learn more about the Northern Zonal Office's role in facilitating trade and ensuring the smooth movement of cargos within the Northern sector of the country.
During a presentation, the Operations officer of the Northern Zonal Office Mr Abdul Karim Mushin outlined its core functions, including providing assistance to importers and exporters in the Northern Zone, resolving challenges faced by shippers, and managing the Northern Sector of Ghana’s transit corridors.
The Zonal Office further used the opportunity and called on the media to broaden their coverage and focus on trade-related issues.
The Northern Zonal Manager, Mr. Frederick Atogiyire in his remarks urged journalists to investigate the challenges faced by traders and drivers along transit routes to help bring such issues to light and hold relevant agencies accountable to ensure the creation of a more conducive environment for trade.
Mr. Abdul Karim Muhsin emphasized the importance of projecting success stories of importers and exporters from the Northern sector.
According to him, celebrating the achievements of businesses operating in the region can inspire others and showcase the potential for economic growth through trade.
Highlighting these stories can also build confidence in the sector, attracting more investments, he said.
The journalists were also encouraged to be proactive in their reporting by engaging with stakeholders in the shipping and trading sectors, ensuring that their stories reflect the realities of the industry.
The GSA expressed its commitment to working closely with the media to enhance their understanding of trade issues, which will ultimately benefit the boarder trading community in the Northern region and beyond.
