‘Nana Bediatuo Asante's recovery on track’ — Presidency clears air on death rumours

Rumours that Nana Bediatuo Asante, the Secretary to the President of Ghana, had passed away while in the United States have been dismissed by the presidency.

In a statement released on Wednesday, October 2, the Office of the President clarified the health status of Mr Asante, who was recently appointed as an Ambassador-at-Large following widespread speculation on social media about his demise.

The statement from Director of Communications Eugene Arhin said "Nana Bediatuo Asante stayed behind [in the US] to conduct further government business” following the 79th United Nations General Assembly.

“He then began to feel unwell, and was subsequently admitted to hospital,” said the statement. "He is currently in stable condition and responding well to treatment. According to the medical team, Nana Bediatuo Asante's recovery is on track, and we remain hopeful for his swift return to full strength."

The presidency asked for "continued prayers and support for him and his family during this difficult period."
