Torgbui Aheto Exa III, Chief of the Ewe community in Ashaiman, Greater Accra Region, has expressed his appreciation to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his historic visit to the Ewe chiefs and elders in the area.
As part of his campaign tour of the Ashaiman Constituency, Dr. Bawumia made a stop to engage with the Ewe community, where he was welcomed by their traditional leaders.
Torgbui Aheto Exa III, in his address, commended the Vice President for what he described as “an unprecedented gesture” towards the Ewe people.
"I must say that this is the first time any senior politician has visited Ashaiman and singled out the Ewe community for such a visit," Torgbui Aheto Exa III remarked.
He added, "We will never forget this visit and this gesture."
In a lighthearted moment, the Chief humorously referenced former Ugandan President Idi Amin's famous words to the Queen of England, stating that just as Amin promised to "retaliate" her warm reception during her visit, the Ewe community would also reciprocate Bawumia’s historic visit with votes in the upcoming December general.
The Chief noted that the Ewe community is important in Ashaiman and plays a crucial role in shaping the political terrain in the constituency.
He also lauded Dr. Bawumia for his campaign conduct and encouraged him to continue promoting unity across the country.
In reaction, Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reiterated his commitment to building a nation that offers opportunities to all, regardless of ethnicity or religion.
"Building one Ghana and creating opportunities for all is my priority," he said, while elaborating on the policies he intends to implement as President, under his vision for national transformation.
