The 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), has placed Ghana at a Tier 1 status.
This ranking places Ghana among the world's leaders in cybersecurity practices.
The GCI, which uses a five-tier system to evaluate countries' cybersecurity measures, has positioned Ghana in its highest category, "Role Modelling" reserved for nations that set the benchmark in cybersecurity, serving as examples for others to follow.
The lowest to highest tiers are Building, Evolving, Establishing, Advancing and Role Modelling.
Ghana scored 99.27 per cent, making it the second highest-scoring country in Africa, behind Mauritius. Ghana is one of five African countries to reach Tier 1 status, joining a group of 46 nations worldwide in this category.
The GCI evaluates countries across five pillars, which include Legal Measures, Technical Measures, Organizational Measures, Capacity Building, and Cooperation.
Ghana's score shows improvement across these areas since the 2020 GCI rankings, where it scored 86.69 per cent and ranked third in Africa behind Mauritius and Tanzania.
