The Chief of Gomoa Nyanyano, Nana Obeng Wiabo III, has appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to support the re-denomination of the cedi.

He noted that since the exercise was of national importance, the assemblies had to be totally involved in the programme to make it a success.

Nana Wiabo made the call when officials of the Gomoa District Directorate of the National Commission for Civil Education (NCCE) called on him and his elders after a forum on the exercise at Nyanyano.

The Chief suggested that the assemblies could help by printing handouts on the conversion of the old currency into the new one.

"I am not at all pleased with the contributions of the assemblies to the exercise", the Chief stated, adding that, it would benefit them if the people understood the exercise.

Nana Wiabo promised to lead chiefs in the area on a public education campaign on the re-denomination of the currency.

He commended the NCCE for doing "a good job" under difficult conditions and suggested that the Commission could use funerals, festivals and other social events to disseminate information on the exercise.

"By so doing you will be able to reach out to many people", the Chief stressed.

Earlier, Stephen Agyei Yeboah, Senior Field Officer, Sule Esaah, Field Officer and Emmanuel Hanson Nunoo, Principal Administrative Officer all of the Directorate had taken the people through the various aspects of the exercise at the forum.
