The Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah has warned that Ghana's economy will be in a dire state for whoever wins the 2024 general elections.

In a social media post on Monday, September 16, Mr. Braimah painted a grim picture of Ghana's economic outlook beyond the upcoming general elections.

He stated that "whoever wins Ghana's 2024 elections will be assuming a dead economy."

According to the media rights advocate, the current government is only focusing on keeping the economy alive until the elections through short-term measures but there are no solid plans to address deep-rooted economic challenges.

"The gov't is skillfully keeping the economy on life support for elections. There will be a funeral announcement for the economy in 2025," Mr Braimah cautioned.

He added that there is an urgent need to start discussions on how Ghana can survive economically beyond 2024 given the looming crisis.

“So we need an urgent discussion on how Ghana will survive beyond 2024," the MFWA boss stressed.

Mr. Braimah's warning comes at a time when Ghana is experiencing a weakening cedi, rising debt levels, among other economic headwinds which have worsened the living conditions of citizens.
