The arguments against temporal suspension of alluvial or surface mining, citing genuine concern for thousands of people who may lose their livelihoods. My response to them is that there are hundreds of countries and thousands, if not millions of communities, doing all types of mining in those countries.
Where or which country can Ghana equate itself with this wanton destruction of ecology, environment, and the health of people. How are others managing to mine in their countries without doing so much harm to what humanity holds dear, i.e., forests, soils, and water.
Most of the people who run from one media house to another basically, to objectify their greed and contempt for all decent and genuine concerns of the overwhelming majority, most of them live in houses located in decent, affluent neighbourhoods and have clean water to drink. Their character and selfish motives are therefore not concealed from well-meaning people in society and soon each one of us will be called to carry our own crosses ✝️ and to answer for our deeds, right here on earth and in Ghana.
It is only in a society led by incompetent and corrupt officials, rulers, and administrators that such selfishness be emboldened and allowed to fester and to spread. Illegal miners, destroyers of our environment and their suit-wearing, well-spoken backers, these people should note that they are not and will never be able to live in isolation.
Very soon, the resulting consequential effects of this blindfolded rush to acquire will engulf all of us. Therefore, this madness in its totality in my country, Ghana, must stop, must be stopped.
