The Ministry of Health has launched two digital platforms as part of efforts to achieve universal health coverage in the country.
The platforms, the National Health Database Platform and HEFRA’s Digitised Health Facility Assessment, are supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Health Strengthening Accelerator project in Ghana.
The Accelerator project, a global initiative funded by the USAID and Co-funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has worked with the Ministry of Health, the Health Facility Regulatory Authority (HeFRA) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to co-create and implement innovative high impact interventions.
Launching the platforms, the Minister for Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, in a speech read on his behalf disclosed that the Acceleration project has delivered remarkable outcomes across several critical areas such as health sector planning and assessment, health insurance and service expansion, strengthening primary healthcare, digitalisation and data management and regulatory reforms in the health sector.
He said one of the significant contributions of the Accelerator project has been its support in developing the Health Sector Medium Term Development Plan (2022-2025).
“This plan has provided a vital roadmap for our Ministry and its agencies, ensuring that we stay on course to deliver high-quality essential health services to every Ghanaian,” he added.
The Chief Director of the Ministry, Alhaji Hafiz Adam, said the platforms integrate health data across all agencies under the Ministry into a centralised dashboard, thereby offering advanced analytics capabilities that allow the ministry to visualise key health priorities and make data-driven decisions.
