The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it cannot trust the Electoral Commission (EC) to clean the voter register.
It is insisting on an independent forensic audit ahead of the election 2024.
In a Facebook post on Friday, September 13, NDC Director of Elections Dr. Edward Omane Boamah accused the EC of conniving with the NPP to rig the elections.
"After our meeting last week with the EC about the unfit-for-purpose voters register, three (3) INTERCONNECTEDLY DEPENDENT/CONDITIONAL issues stood out: 1. Our non-negotiable demand for an independent forensic audit, 2. Submission of our findings for the forensic audit, and 3. RE-EXHIBITION of the register after the forensic audit," Dr. Boamah wrote.
He noted that the NDC had submitted its findings on the flawed register to the EC a week ago but is yet to have them addressed or get its hard drive containing further evidence returned by the electoral body.
"Why is the EC not returning our hard drive which has been in their custody for the past one week after our encounter with them last week Friday?" Dr. Boamah queried.
In demanding the independent audit, Dr. Boamah outlined a number of questions the exercise aims to answer, including "the extent of manipulation" of the voters list and "specific vulnerabilities in the Electoral Commission’s systems.”
He insisted only a forensic audit can properly address the NDC's concerns and guarantee the credibility of elections set for December 7.
"Answering these questions honestly and truthfully through an independent forensic audit is non-negotiable and essential for safeguarding the credibility of Ghana’s electoral process," Dr. Omane Boamah stated.
The NDC has called supporters to join an "Enough is Enough" protest on Tuesday, September 17, to press home its demand for an independent audit of the voters' register.
