Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Nana Ohene Ntow has called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to declare a state of emergency over the escalating issue of illegal mining, known as galamsey.
According to him, galamsey poses more threat than a civil war.
Speaking on Peace FM’s 'Kokrokoo' show, Nana Ohene Ntow highlighted the devastating impact of galamsey on the nation’s environment, particularly its water bodies, which are being destroyed at an alarming rate.
He expressed deep concern about the growing menace, which he believes is endangering the country’s future.
Nana Ohene Ntow also raised fears about the increasing power of illegal miners, who are reportedly armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, making them a formidable force that continues to defy laws and regulations.
Describing the galamsey crisis as a national emergency, he urged the government not to take the situation lightly.
“This is worse than a civil war... We are in a state of emergency,” he stated.
