Roads in Obuasi East to receive massive facelift after launch of DRIP equipment

The long-awaited road rehabilitation in Obuasi East is set to commence following the delivery of essential equipment under the government’s District Roads Improvement Program (DRIP).

District Chief Executive Hon. Faustina Amissah confirmed that work will soon begin on the Ayease-Diawuoso-Jimison stretch, a critical area that has been a major concern for the Assembly. Speaking at a brief ceremony to hand over the equipment to the Assembly, Hon. Amissah noted that the arrival of the machinery was timely, addressing the growing frustrations of residents over the poor state of roads in the district.

The equipment, which includes a tipper truck, water tanker, two concrete mixers, a roller, a backhoe, and a motor grader, is expected to significantly improve the district's deteriorating road infrastructure.

"This will provide relief to our people, who have endured terrible road conditions for a long time. They have suffered from the deplorable road network, and we are grateful to the President and Vice President for this bold initiative," Hon. Amissah said.

Member of Parliament for the Obuasi East constituency, Hon. Patrick Boakye Yiadom, expressed his relief at the arrival of the equipment. He described the DRIP initiative as unprecedented, emphasizing that it would give a much-needed facelift to both internal and rural roads within the district.

Dr. Boakye Yiadom also highlighted ongoing road construction projects in the constituency, mentioning roads such as the Kwabenakwa to Mampamhwe road, Abusco junction to Abusco last stop, Bossman town roads, Amansan to Odumase, and a bypass from Kwabenafoso-Nkwadum-7 days, among others. He assured residents that these roads would be completed before the December elections.

Kwabena Nsenkyire Dapaah, the Ashanti Regional Coordinator for DRIP, stated that the program fulfills the President’s pledge to ensure equitable distribution of development across the country. He added that the initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to deepening decentralization and empowering local communities to drive their development.

To ensure the program’s success, Mr. Nsenkyire Dapaah explained that stringent measures have been put in place, including the formation of committees at the district level to oversee DRIP operations. With work plans approved by the district, resources will be allocated immediately to address the selected roads.
