The youth wing of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has threatened reprisal attack if the police fail to arrest those responsible for an alleged attack on its members in the Ahafo region within 48 hours.
According to a statement issued by NDC National Youth Organizer George Opare Addo on Monday, September 9, some NDC youth were "unjustifiably attacked" by supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) last Saturday.
Mr Addo alleged that the home of a former NDC Constituency Chairperson in the area was "ransacked" and the Ahafo Regional Youth Organizer "assaulted" during the incident.
"The NPP, knowing their defeat is imminent on December 7, 2024, has resorted to weaponizing violence across the country," Mr Addo said in the statement.
He condemned the attacks as a "direct assault" on the NDC, saying the party is now in "defense mode" and will "not tolerate any further provocation."
Mr Addo gave the Ahafo Regional Police a 48-hour deadline to arrest the "culprits" responsible for the alleged attacks, threatening that the NDC Youth Wing will "retaliate with full force" if this does not happen.
"If the agents of the NPP within the Police fail to arrest these lawless hooligans within the next 48 hours, the NDC Youth Wing will respond in a more brutal, decisive, and forceful manner in seven days. They should take note," the statement reads in part.
