A tragic incident has occurred in Ashaiman, Greater Accra Region, where a husband allegedly killed his wife and child before fleeing to his hometown, Lamboya, a suburb of Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.
The suspect, identified as Apandago Jacob Asiibi, has been arrested and currently receiving treatment under police guard at Zebilla Hospital.
Eyewitnesses reported that the only survivors in the house were the couple's two young daughters, who were asleep in another room during the horrific incident.
The situation escalated after a heated argument between Jacob and his wife over allegations of infidelity. In a fit of rage, Jacob is said to have fatally attacked both his wife and their newborn child.
Jacob's brother, Apandago Azumah Simon, revealed that Jacob had previously expressed concerns about his wife’s alleged infidelity to the family.
He had mentioned plans to bring his wife back to their hometown to perform traditional rituals, as required by their Northern customs, particularly among the Kusaasi tribe. In their tradition, such rituals are believed to prevent calamities in the family when a wife sleeps with another man.
Few days prior to the tragedy, Jacob had arranged with his wife to return home for the sacrifices. However, the family was shocked to learn of the tragic events that unfolded instead.
According to Azumah, Jacob arrived in their hometown on August 7, 2024, visibly distressed. After confessing to his actions, he attempted to take his own life by ingesting weedicide, leading to his hospitalization.
The family immediately reported the incident to the Zebilla Police Command, who have since placed Jacob under police guard at the hospital.
Eliasu Musah, an emergency nurse at Zebilla Hospital, confirmed Jacob's admission to the intensive care unit. He noted that Jacob is in stable condition and receiving treatment, with a strong police presence to ensure security.
