Israel: a (worst) case study?

Feature Article Israel: a (worst) case study?
SAT, 07 SEP 2024 LISTEN

Arab Spring was the spontaneous uprising against elected political leaders over time disconnected from their people the sovereign of the nation. French, Russian, Cuban, Chinese, and German revolutions exceeded the fresh hold of protests to express displeasure and the need to use force to get the will of the people done. Extreme national situations trigger extreme reactions. Money or state emergencies are the underlying factors for the road from peaceful protests to violent uprisings against elected leaders.

Israel sees itself entrenched in an ongoing war with Hamas knowing by the killings of over 40.000 innocent Palestinians they breed the next generation of terrorists against the state of Israel in Gaza and the West Bank. Meanwhile, the fight against Hamas has shifted to a fight against PM Benjamin Netanyahu for his political survival. Allies like the USA, France, Germany, etc. are more and more concerned about the situation, especially in light of the American-Turkish activist who got shot dead in the West Bank last week Thursday (05.09.2024).

More and more Israelites take to the streets in protest demanding the end of the war, the release of hostages, and a lasting solution to live in peace with the Palestinian neighbors. PM Benjamin Netanjahu as expected defends his strategy as the only solution to eliminate Hamas once and for all and by occupying the Philadelphi Corridor along the Gaza-Egyptian border by IDF forces. Hamas and the Palestinians see this as taking the life out of innocent people who have a legitimate right to live their way.

The Jewish protesters recognize and cherish this view of their Palestinian neighbors. Their protests are a sign of a disconnect with their political leadership. The war has brought Israel into a state of emergency. The policy of Israel is more and more in doubt in the West openly expressed or voiced behind closed doors. While politicians come and go the nation is left behind with a certain image and reputation around the world in time and space influencing the life of future generations.

It is still too early to predict the outcome of the ongoing situation but in the future, not only questions about human rights violations, the violence of international law, and the violence of the Geneva Convention, would have a two-state solution according to the 1993 Oslo Treaty have prevented the October,7th 2023 Hamas attack on Israel will be asked and answered.

This war and the ongoing internal protests in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem will be an interesting scientific case to answer the question of when a people are morally mandated to rise against an elected government by force as the world has witnessed several times before, how far down a government can bring its people to its knees before being replaced.
