NEW VICE PRESIDENT FOR NEWMONT

Newmont Ghana Gold Limited has a new vice president. He is Mr. Gordon Nixon. He takes over from Mr. Bill Zisah who has been appointed at Newmont Mining Corporation's headquarters in Dever, USA.

In his new role, Mr. Zisch will establish and develop an integrated operations planning team. He will also be responsible for developing and implementing a global energy strategy for the corporation.

Mr. Gordon Nixon has been in the country since 2006 as the Group Executive Operations. He had previously spent several years as Managing Director of the Central Asia region for Newmont.

At a press soiree organized by the company to bid Mr. Zisch farewell and to introduce Mr. Nixon, Mr. Zisch said he was pleased to have been part of establishing Newmont's business in Africa and the successful development and commissioning of the Ahafo mine.

He said it has been challenging yet rewarding endeavour and an opportunity to develop many lasting relationships.

On his part, Mr. Gordon Nixon promised build on the success of the last few years and to continue to grow the mining business in the sub-region. “For us this is an exciting time to be in Ghana” he added.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines Miss Joyce Aryee in her opening address called on the media to partner the mining companies to educate the populace about the benefits and good works that the mining companies are doing instead of writing about the destructive activities of the companies.
